How to make word scramble worksheets with answers
Use the same letters to rebuild each word, then check the intended spelling on the matching answer page.
Create the worksheet
Choose a word list
Open a theme and select Word scramble. To change its words, choose Edit words first; Make your own keeps your input in browser memory.
Check the words
Use one entry per line in the editor and Apply words. Choose spellings you want the group to practise. A scramble uses the normalized letters, so spaces and hyphens do not become separate puzzle pieces.
Choose the output
Select Letter or A4, standard or large text, and keep both student pages and the answer key selected. Choose Generate pages after changing settings.
Inspect and download
Review the scrambled letters, blanks, answer pages and any skipped-word notice. Download PDF for the whole generated set, or SVG for the currently selected page.
A worked eight-word Baking example
This sample uses flour, sugar, butter, yeast, dough, whisk, loaf and oven. It has a student worksheet and its intended answers. To rebuild it, edit a copy of Baking down to these eight words, choose Word scramble and seed baking-scramble-01. Keep Letter, 12 pt, student pages and answer pages.
Words used
flour · sugar · butter · yeast · dough · whisk · loaf · oven
Why can a word be skipped?
A scramble must differ from the original normalized spelling. A one-letter entry or an entry consisting of one repeated letter cannot produce a different arrangement. Such entries are reported as skipped. A list of letters is not automatically a usable scramble: review the actual generated items before printing.
| Input issue | What to inspect | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Spaces or hyphens | The normalized puzzle form joins the letters. | Explain the expected answer or choose a single word. |
| Accented letters | Accents are kept unless you explicitly choose to strip them in the private editor. | Use the spelling you intend to teach; check the answer page. |
| No different letter order | A skipped-word notice can reduce the exercise. | Replace that entry or use it in another activity. |
| An unfamiliar long word | The scramble is valid but the task may be too hard. | Introduce the word and meaning, use a shorter list, or keep a separate word bank. |

Handle more than one valid answer
The letters in STOP can also make POST, POTS or TOPS. The answer page records the intended source word; it is not a dictionary of all valid anagrams. Accept a different real word when it fits your instructions, or give a context clue such as “make the vehicle stop.” For spelling practice, tell learners which topic or word bank applies.
PuzzleKitLab makes ordinary word scrambles. It does not add a hidden final message, automatically grade typed answers or verify that every letter arrangement has only one possible answer. A changed seed can change the scramble but cannot remove all ambiguity in the underlying letters.
Print and reuse the matching set
Keep each worksheet with the answer pages generated from that same list, settings and seed. The downloadable PDF contains page images at about 150 dpi. Choose SVG for vector text, one selected page at a time. Print one copy at actual size and check writing space before making a class set; larger text can add pages.

Save the settings needed to recreate the worksheet
After solving, ask learners to explain two of the words or use them in a sentence. Rebuilding letters practices a different task from understanding a word in a text. Choose a different game if rearranging letters gets in the way of the purpose of your activity.
