Each theme starts with a word list and a short explanation of what it covers. The list keeps the original spellings. For the puzzle grid, letters become uppercase and spaces and hyphens are removed. Accents stay unless you choose to remove them in Make your own.
Making the same puzzle again
The seed controls the choices the puzzle maker makes. Use the same words in the same order, with the same settings, seed and generator version, to repeat an arrangement. Save puzzle settings keeps these details in a file, and SVG downloads include them in their metadata.
Placing words in a search
The puzzle maker tries longer words first, then places the others along the directions you allow. Shared letters must match. If a word cannot fit, it is listed with a reason. Filler letters are checked against a small English list of unwanted sequences. That check is limited, so look over a new puzzle before sharing it.
Mixing letters and making bingo cards
A scramble uses the same letters as the grid spelling, in a different order. A word such as AAA cannot be rearranged into anything different, so it is skipped. A bingo card never repeats a word within its squares. Cards are checked for different arrangements within a set, and the call list includes each word used in that set once. More than one player can still win on the same call.
Fitting the printed page
Pages use A4 or Letter dimensions with margins of at least 12 mm. Long word lists and call lists continue onto extra pages. If a grid will not fit at your chosen text size, you will see a message asking you to change the settings. PDF downloads are made in your browser from 150 dpi page images. Choose SVG for a page that stays sharp when enlarged.
