Save a settings file to keep your word list and setup together. Load it later to make the same puzzle with the same generator version.
To make the same puzzle again, keep the words, their order, the settings, the seed and the generator version. The seed controls the arrangement, but it needs those other details to produce the same result. Saving a settings file keeps the setup together.
What to save
Keep this
Why it matters
The exact words
A theme list may change over time. Its title will not preserve an older list.
The word order and grid spellings
Reordering entries or changing how spaces and accents are handled can change the puzzle.
The activity settings
Grid size, directions, shared letters and bingo options affect the result.
The full seed
The same seed repeats the generator’s choices when all the other inputs match.
The generator version
A newer version may arrange the same words differently.
A seed can be 1–80 characters long. Long seeds are shortened in the printed footer, so copy the full value from your saved settings or the SVG or PDF metadata. An ellipsis in the footer is not part of the seed.
Make the same puzzle again
Find the saved setup
Use your original settings file or the full metadata in a download. Keep the original puzzle and answers for comparison.
Restore the words
Use the same list, in the same order, with the same settings for spaces, hyphens and accents.
Match the game settings
Set the same grid size, directions and shared-letter option, or the same bingo card options.
Use the full seed
Copy the complete seed, including any letters or punctuation. A shortened footer label may leave out part of it.
Compare the pages
Update the preview and compare the word paths, scramble answers or bingo card IDs with the original.
In Make your own, choose Save puzzle settings to download the words and all the current settings. If you start with Edit words on a theme page, check the settings again: that button copies the word list, not changes made to the public theme’s setup.
Choose Load puzzle settings in Make your own to open the file. It restores the words, title, seed and activity settings. If you see a generator-version warning, compare the new result with your original download; an updated generator may arrange the words differently.
Compare two matching examples
These two examples use the same Garden Birds list in the same order, a 16 × 16 grid, across-and-down directions and the seed birds-repeat-01. With the same generator version, the word paths and filler letters match.
Run B: the same words, order, seed, settings and generator version produce the same grid as Run A.Words used
robin · blackbird · blue tit · great tit · coal tit · marsh tit · long-tailed tit · chaffinch · goldfinch · greenfinch · bullfinch · house sparrow · tree sparrow · starling · wren · dunnock · nuthatch · treecreeper · magpie · jackdaw · woodpigeon · collared dove · song thrush · mistle thrush
Paper size and text size change the printed page without changing the word coordinates. Keep those settings too if you want the page to look the same. Larger text can move the word list onto another page while leaving the grid arrangement unchanged.
Check the generator version first. If it changed, keep the original puzzle and answer download for reuse. If the version matches, compare the exact words and their order, then the grid size, directions and overlap setting. A small difference can change the arrangement.
The settings file is saved on your device when you download it. There is no cloud account or automatic save, and your custom words and seeds do not become public pages. Without the original settings or full metadata, a title and short seed label may not be enough to recreate a puzzle.
